As Professor of Physical Therapy and Director of the Motor Control Lab at Virginia Commonwealth University, Dr. James Thomas has been embracing technology and engaging participants with virtual reality. On a mission to help understand the control of trunk movements for individuals who present orthopedic and neurological impairments, his research is well respected within the physical therapy field and has helped numerous individuals who are now able to function with less back pain as a result of participating in his research.

Jim has been using The MotionMonitor since the early 2000s after completing his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois. In the last 22 years we have been proud to support the growth of his research lines. By combining Vicon motion capture and Unity virtual reality into The MotionMonitor, the Motor Control Lab has been able to use real-time motion data to provide a stimulating virtual reality environment where participants can be fully engaged and gain the benefits of greater trunk movement and control.
